KENYA – WEEK 2 MARCH 5, 2018-MARCH 9, 2018

Hi all! I thought I would give you all some background about what we are doing here in Kenya on a day to day basis.  Plus, some info on the strike and the Kenyan medical system. First of all, the medical system here is very different from the US. There are multiple types of clinics and hospitals through the country and each type provides a different level of care.  Dispensaries are local clinics where patients can pick up medication

KENYA – WEEK 1

2/26/2018-3/4/2018   I am traveling with 8 other pharmacy students who will also be working in the hospital - Austin, Max, Lindsey, Lindsay, Naomi, Elizabeth, Carli, and Megan.  There are also multiple medical residents, medical students, physicians, and scientists working with AMPATH and staying at IU house with us.  Check out this website to learn more about AMPATH and how this rotation got started https://ampath.pharmacy.purdue.edu/   After fighting some jet lag from our 24+ hours of travel, we headed

KENYA – WEEKS 3-5

BIG WINS The last few weeks have been pretty rough. I love working on the wards every day, but they can be extremely draining. Some days it feels like I’ve been running around all day and nothing gets done. So, to combat that we all started talking about our “big wins.” A big win is something that you did that made a difference or a positive thing that happened to you. Every day on our walks back from the

8/7/2017 Q & A

Hi Everyone! I thought it was time for an update – a long overdue update.  I am currently in the middle of my clinical rotations for pharmacy school.  There is a light at the end of the tunnel after almost six years of college! I am traveling all around Indiana and Illinois for my rotations with a quick pit stop in Kenya for 8 weeks in October and November.  I am on track to graduate in May 2018 with

College Life 2015

Hello Everyone! I apologize for the huge gap between posts but I will try to update you on what has been going on. So, I am in currently in my second week of my second year of pharmacy school (YAY). I finished my first year of professional school this past May and my GPA has never been higher than it is right now! I have gotten into a great routine, love my friends, and basically am having an awesome college

Loving My Awesome, Healthy Life

5/29/2014 Hi Everyone! So, it’s been a while since my last post but I have some good news! I was accepted into Pharmacy School at Purdue University! After two long years of working my butt off I am so happy to be starting this wonderful chapter of my life in the fall.  I am doing so well and I absolutely love life.  I’m doing things I never thought I would ever be able to do.  In the last two

To All The Dads

9/18/2013 TO ALL THE DADS: A note from Dayna’s father. The website is called “My daughters headache”. It is devoted to the children who are afflicted with this problem, most of whom seem to be girls, but also to the parents. Dayna and my wife, Teena, seem to be inundated with contacts from Moms. We have yet to hear from a father or a husband. They seem to be in the background. So, I wanted to give you my

Looking Forward to College

JUNE 26, 2012 One year since my first surgery and six months since my last surgery and I'm feeling great! I do get a few headaches occasionally, but these are in check with OTC medications. I'm just thankful that if I have a headache now it will go away! I have also noticed that I am more sensitive to some things now; it seems like I have become almost lactose intolerant. Whenever I have cheese or most other dairy

It’s Finally Over, (Almost!)

NOVEMBER 15, 2011 I have wanted to write something on the website for a while but I was so busy with college applications and school that I didn’t have much time.  First off, I just want to say that Dr. Ducic really saved my life.  The headaches coupled with the ridiculous amount of medication I was on, most of which made my headaches worse, really took a toll on me.  I was depressed and not myself.  The worst part

Three Months Post Surgery

11/9/2011 Dayna is back to being herself. The headache in the center of her head is not there. (Although, she has had a couple headaches that have gone away.) The shooting pins have stopped. She still has a “headache” around her temples. She is scheduled for nerve decompression on those nerves in December. We knew at the start of all this that more that one procedure might be necessary. Dr. Ducic works on the area with the most pain
